MEET THE TEAM
Prof. Dominic Eggbeer
Dominic has 17 years of industry, research & training experience in the application of innovative design and manufacturing applied to healthcare. Dominic is Prof. Healthcare Applications of Design at Cardiff Met. University and heads the Surgical & Prosthetic Design team at PDR.
Surgical & Prosthetic Design’s mission is to support collaboration between healthcare professionals and wider stakeholders in the research, design and development of medically approved patient-specific devices that mitigate risk, are user-friendly and informed by regular scientific reviews.
As a keen mountain biker, cycle commuter and general outdoor enthusiast, Dominic also understands the need for products that enable people to engage with the sports they love. Trinity Creative means doing more of what he loves; improving health and well-being through the development of design engineering technologies.
Tom Wheeler BA (Hons)
Tom Wheeler was an expert level Downhill Mountain biker up until 2011 where he had a serious crash that resulted in him paralysing his right arm.
The crash was a turning point in Tom’s life that would see his extensive expertise in wearable technology and bicycle suspension be put to good use. He applied his skills to create a pioneering and unique wearable device to emulate a working upper limb. This allowed him to regain bilateral control and progress back to a high level of riding.
This was just the start. Unsatisfied with the look and feel of splints he was offered through the UK National Health Service (NHS), he began exploring how computer aided design, combined with low-cost 3D printing could be used to create fashionable wearables to aid his recovery process. This resulted in lots of great ideas, which captured the attention of many people with brachial plexus injuries and other conditions that cause upper limb paralysis. This needed a direction.
For Tom, setting up Trinity Creative was essential to progress these ideas, make them easy to use and accessible to those who want to get involved with sporting activities.
Marc Lloyd MCSP BSc (Hons)
Marc has been a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist since 2004. He has predominately worked in South Wales gaining experience in musculoskeletal medicine, orthopaedic trauma and neuro rehabilitation. In 2010 he established his private clinic, 1st Step Therapy after some time in elite sport (Swansea City AFC) and has consistently worked with high performing athletes.
In 2012 he was appointed Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Brachial Plexus and upper limb/hand at the Regional Centre for Burns and Plastics in Swansea.
After years of experience making and prescribing splints/supports, Marc began collaborating with Tom to develop novel devices better than those traditionally prescribed. Limited by conventional materials and fabrication processes, Marc and Tom began working with Dominic to explore high tech alternatives. This is where his journey into computer aided design and 3d printing started. These new methods ignited a passion to create not only functional supports, but devices that are proudly worn to meet the individual’s needs and lifestyle.
Marc encourages activity as a means to greater independence, health and wellbeing. For him, the application of modern technology enables better looking products that go beyond basic functionality to be provided to a greater number of people.
